My great grandmother knew her way around the kitchen. She was famous for her pulla bread, sloppy joes, pasties, buttermilk waffles and buttermilk pancakes. And many more things, I’m certain, but these top five continue to be a regular tradition amongst her descendants.

Including yours truly.

I’ve really become well acquainted with her waffles especially. My whole family, in fact.

They’re a special treat and the best waffles you’ll ever eat. Buttery, delicious comfort food at its finest.

I prefer mine with fresh strawberries and a cup of Joe. How do you like your waffles?

Great Grandma's Buttermilk Waffles

2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
4 eggs
2 cups of buttermilk
1 cup butter, melted

In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients and set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and gently stir to combine. Do not over mix.

Spray a waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray, then preheat. Once the waffle iron is ready, add the batter according to the manufacturer’s instructions and cook until the waffle iron indicates they are ready. Serve immediately.
